Common name: Chilean Swallow
Scientific name: Tachycineta leucopyga
It reaches between 12 to 14 cm in length. It has a very characteristic erratic flight: agile, fast and with artful handling; this allows it to hunt insects in flight. Its beautiful plumage has iridescent coloration on its head and back, distinguished from other swallows by its intense white rump (segment between the trunk and tail).
It nests in the Magellan region in spring and summer. The nest may have 3 or 5 eggs, in up to 2 clutches during the season. It has a wide distribution, preferring open and humid areas where mosquitoes proliferate. It can also be observed in urban environments.
Conservation Status: LC (Least Concern)
