Cinnamon-bellied Ground-Tyrant

Common name: Cinnamon-bellied Ground-Tyrant
Scientific name: Muscisaxicola capistratus

It is resident during the reproductive period during the spring and austral summer, both on the continent and in Tierra del Fuego, in steppe and scrubland environments. The chromatics of its plumage is very peculiar: on the beak and the area around the eyes are completely black (like an eye mask), and on the crown (the head) it has an intense rufous spot (reddish). The body is ash-colored and the edge of the wings is black; to this description we must add a distinctive posture that makes it look elegant.

It has a clutch of three eggs maximum, which develop in nests built in rock crevices or made with feathers. In its displacement, this bird has the particularity of performing “hovering flight”, remaining motionless for a few seconds to soon continue flying in search of food.

Conservation Status: LC (Least Concern)
